, Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question about your hearing, our services, or funding? You will find answers to the questions we hear most often below. If you do not see yours, call us at (416) 792-7778.

Do I need a referral to book an appointment?

No. You can book directly with us. Call (416) 792-7778 or reach out through our contact page to schedule your visit.

How much is a diagnostic hearing evaluation?

Diagnostic hearing evaluations are $75.00. We offer evaluations for adults and for children ages 5 and up.

How much is earwax removal?

Earwax (cerumen) removal is a flat $75.00, whether we treat one ear or both. It is a private-pay service and is not billed through OHIP.

Does OHIP cover hearing tests or hearing aids?

Hearing services such as diagnostic evaluations and earwax removal are not covered by OHIP. OHIP will cover hearing aids through the ADP program, 75% up to $500 per ear, if you qualify. See our Funding and Insurance page for details.

What funding programs do you work with?

We work with ADP, WSIB, Veterans Affairs Canada, NIHB, ACSD, ODSP, and most private insurance plans. We direct-bill WSIB, Veterans Affairs, and NIHB for covered services, and we can direct-bill Greenshield for hearing aids. For other plans, we provide the documentation you need for reimbursement. Visit our Funding and Insurance page for the full breakdown.

Are hearing aid follow-up appointments included?

Yes. Follow-up adjustment appointments are included in the cost after a hearing aid dispensing. We want to make sure your hearing aids keep working their best for you.

Who will provide my care?

Your care at Hearing Beyond is provided by a licensed audiologist, regulated by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). Audiologists hold master's or doctoral degrees and are trained in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing loss.

How often should I have my hearing tested?

Like eye and dental check-ups, hearing should be checked throughout life. Good milestones include starting school, entering university, turning 50, and retirement. After age 60, we recommend a hearing evaluation every two years, since age-related hearing loss often develops gradually. And at any age, if you notice difficulty hearing in noise, ringing in your ears, or find yourself turning up the TV, book an evaluation.

Are hearing aids taxed?

Hearing aids are exempt from HST in Canada, which helps reduce the cost. Out-of-pocket hearing aid expenses may also be eligible as a medical expense on your income tax return. Speak with your tax professional for guidance.

What are your hours? Do you open Saturdays?

We are open every other Saturday from 10:00am to 1:00pm, by appointment only, for hearing aid adjustments and hearing assessments. Saturday appointments are not available on long weekends. Visit our Contact Us page for our full weekday hours.
